OPENING THE DOORS TO CAREERS IN CONSTRUCTION

Build UK and CITB’s Open Doors is back, bigger than before, with even more opportunities to visit a construction site. And this year all Birmingham schools and colleges will receive a special invitation to attend a tailored education visit. Taking place on June 13th and 17th, these exclusive events are limited to 100 total places on a first come, first served basis.

Hosted by Built Environment Skills in Schools (BESS) and Carillion Plc, the tour will show educators and students the first phase of works at Paradise Birmingham include enabling, demolition and civil engineering works for the new infrastructure scheme, first two buildings and enhanced public square.  The total £500m scheme will redevelop the area of and around the former Central Library over approximately 15 years, providing high quality commercial, leisure and retail space to transform this key area of the City Centre.

Students will have the opportunity to meet the professionals involved in the transformation stages of the development and listen to their views of what Paradise Circus means to them and what it will bring to the City including its lasting legacy and the impact and opportunities that are being created in jobs and skills.

Students can also test their thinking with some of the challenges faced by construction developments including transport and infrastructure, architecture, air quality, financial constraints, acoustic noise levels, pedestrian movement, perceived safety, and sector marketing.
